There is probably no worse way to bust in the Main Event in the World Series of Poker (WSOP) than in a hand in which you have a huge chance of victory. Well, that nightmare came true for a player at the ongoing edition of the event in Las Vegas.

the unnamed player had an immediate 87% chance of victory

With pocket Aces against an Ace and King of spades, the unnamed player had an immediate 87% chance of victory. This grew to 99.9% chance of winning when the flop included the King of hearts and Ace of clubs.

But much to the astonishment of the players at the table, the AA player ultimately lost the hand. Poker player Eric Nathan shared images of the hand on Tuesday this week:

The turn came up King of spades, meaning the opponent had a full house. But even with that they still only had a 2.27% chance of beating pocket Aces, which at this point had a better full house. The pocket Aces player was likely counting their lucky stars, but that was until the river came…

The river brought the King of diamonds, giving the opponent quads with the Kings. With that, the pocket Aces player busted out of the Main in the most improbable fashion.

Many poker players responded to the post on X, including one called @SpicerQQ who said they would “never play again” if they suffered this bad beat. Another called @Greysonshreds said simply: “Gross,” while @FSProphecy said they “wouldn’t be able to sleep after this.”
