Sportsbook operators often do whatever they can to ensure that high rollers keep coming back. Whether they provide incentives in the form of exclusive bonuses, cashback, or tickets to high-profile sporting events, most brands have dedicated staff looking after big spenders.
The issue is that some people who gamble a lot of money have an issue with controlling their betting, so certain protective measures need to be in place.
That’s why the Responsible Online Gaming Association has published new guidelines for VIP hosts. The group has eight members, including DraftKings, FanDuel, Fanatics, and Hard Rock Digital. All the members agreed to implement the new measures within a reasonable timeframe.
The new restrictions were developed by looking at existing evidence, and some operators already follow some of these policies.
if a customer triggers any red flags, a strict escalation process must be followed
VIP hosts will now have to undergo specific training for their roles, and new protocols will go into effect regarding interactions between them and players. Automated reviews of risk behavior will be implemented, and if a customer triggers any red flags, a strict escalation process must be followed.
Hosts will have to regularly give educational materials to VIP players about gambling responsibly, and manual reviews of high roller programs must take place. Another noteworthy measure is that VIP hosts can’t give players any promotions or incentives if they’re in a cool-off period, banned, suspended, or self-excluded.
