A man in California won a $20m jackpot after buying a $30 ticket while on his lunch break. Durwin Hickman had to send a photo of the winning scratch ticket to his wife to make sure that he had actually won the life-changing sum.

the biggest rush” he has had in his life

The California Lottery issued a news release regarding the win, describing how the San Francisco International Airport worker secured the ‘Set for Life!’ top prize. Hickman bought the ticket in a liquor store and described the feeling of winning as “the biggest rush” he has had in his life. His first priority is to buy a new house with some of the money.

The liquor store that sold the ticket will get a $100,000 bonus payment from the lottery.

This is not the only interesting recent lottery win in the state. Earlier this month, the same Chevron gas station in Encino sold two winning tickets to the main state lottery draw. This meant that the purchasers will share the $395m jackpot unless the same person bought both tickets. It is unclear if this has ever happened in the past.
