US District Court Judge Nusrat J. Choudhury has ordered a California medical supplies executive heading to trial for a $3m tax dodge to post a massive bond after he was caught gambling at casinos.

Judge Choudhury ordered Alex Kleiman, 44, a former owner of Jacksonville’s Reliable Healthcare Solutions Inc., who now runs the firm under contract, to pay a bond of $350,000. This is a 250% hike on the $100,000 bond Kleiman previously posted after pleading guilty to not paying millions in federal income taxes.

plea deal came with the order to quit gambling

In December 2025, Kleiman pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion and was ordered to pay $2.6m in restitution. His plea deal came with the order to quit gambling and enroll in an inpatient gambling addiction program until his sentencing, which has been scheduled for June.

Unfortunately for Kleiman, prosecutors presented CCTV evidence of him entering Ocean Casino Resort in New Jersey in January 2025 with a plastic shopping bag containing $400,000 in cash.

Newsday cited Kleiman’s attorney as stating that his client had quit gambling “but was overwhelmed by his addiction and relapsed.” The attorney also said that it wasn’t “unusual for high-stakes gamblers” like Kleiman to take big amounts of cash into casinos.

Prosecutors allege Kleiman has, in little over a year, made frequent visits to the Atlantic City casino and Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Casino and Resort. His losses at Ocean reportedly totaled $650,000 over 2025.

According to reports, Kleiman wagered over $4.5m at Mohegan Sun in just over three weeks, losing more than he won.
