DraftKings Sportsbook has launched online in Puerto Rico to give the Boston-based brand a live sports betting footprint in the US territory to add to its presence in DC and 26 states.
Monday’s launch was shared by DraftKings News on X, which cited a company exec describing Puerto Rico as having “a passionate sports community:”
In a news release, DraftKings Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports, Gregory Karamitis said while the sportsbook was available from November in retail form at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino, the mobile betting launch was the “next step in expanding the DraftKings experience across the island.”
Karamitis said DraftKings’ digital product will give “eligible local customers a seamless, exciting, and responsible way to engage with sports.”
Puerto Rican bettors can avail themselves of staple DraftKings in-game wagering
Only Puerto Rico residents can register for a DraftKings mobile account and they must do so in person at the brand’s Foxwoods arm. Once the paperwork’s done, Puerto Rican bettors can avail themselves of staple DraftKings in-game wagering, same-game parlays, and special odds boosts across global sporting events and games from the world’s major leagues.
DraftKings enters into a market where US rival BetMGM became the first mobile sportsbook to launch in Puerto Rico in February 2022. Earlier this month, another US firm also revealed its ambitions in the US territory, with Hard Rock International announcing it will start work on an $850m casino-resort in Puerto Rico this year, to be completed in 2029.
