Polymarket reportedly has a team that caters to the needs of Chinese users, despite the country’s strict gambling laws. Talking to Rest of World, Justin Wang, part of the Asia strategy team, said that he is working on doing everything possible to better service Polymarket’s Chinese customers. He added that “China is becoming a very important geography” for the prediction market site.
Wang said that the company is hiring Mandarin-speaking customer experience roles, providing support to Chinese market makers, creating relevant markets for these users, and creating a Chinese-language version of Polymarket. Some recent market additions include bets on the Lunar New Year.
monthly trading volume from Asian customers is in the region of hundreds of millions of dollars
China doesn’t allow any form of online gambling and blocks access to Kalshi and Polymarket. However, people use VPNs to get around these blocks. Wang was unsure how many China-based users Polymarket has, but he noted that monthly trading volume from Asian customers is in the region of hundreds of millions of dollars.
Wang, who dropped out of Stanford to work at Polymarket, said that the Chinese diaspora is a part of the company’s growth plan. Polymarket is already banned in many major countries, including New Zealand, Australia, France, and Portugal.
