Law enforcement in Florida have arrested a man who was trying to extort Wynn Resorts founder Steve Wynn for $1m. Officers from the Palm Beach Police Department apprehended Las Vegas local Michael Loizias for an intimidation campaign that saw him send threatening packages and emails to the 84-year-old.

While Wynn’s executive assistant reported the harassment on January 30, 2026, the matter originated in October 2023. The 43-year-old Loizias sent 79 threatening emails, mentioning Wynn’s Palm Beach address.

In them, he claimed that Wynn owed him money for unpaid taxes after selling stock in the casino company. The casino mogul reported these incidents to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department at the time.

There was no further contact until Wynn got two packages last month, also containing threatening letters and demands to send $1m by March 2. The return address was for Loizias, and he also included his bank details. He said that he would see Wynn in person if he didn’t receive the money by the deadline.

A law enforcement officer pretended to be from Loizias’ bank and said he would need to go in person to get the money. After Loizias turned up at the wealth management office, police arrested him. He is now facing extortion charges following his arrest on Monday and remains in Palm Beach County Jail with bond set at $40,000.
