A local influencer giant’s warning about “feather people” has gone viral following an attempted $500 photo-op hustle by a showgirl at a casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Las Vegas Locally’s shared a Reddit thread featuring an attractive feathered hustler who tried to con a casino-goer. The post has attracted nearly 70,000 views.
The Las Vegas-based news page took to X on Wednesday with the post titled “beware of the feather people” and another urging people to call security if they encounter the scammers:
According to the thread on Reddit, the original poster of the image claimed the woman in the showgirl-style outfit photobombed a selfie and then demanded $500.
The New York-New York Hotel & Casino (NYNY) patron allegedly refused and told the feathered blonde to “back off.” The responses on social media to the attempted hustle number in the hundreds, with many stating the woman had some nerve operating inside a casino like NYNY where security are typically alert to ban or quickly eject such interlopers who pester customers and nibble away at house profits.
a common sight on the Strip
According to reports, many such so-called showgirls are a common sight on the Strip outside of casinos, and despite not being affiliated to any Vegas shows, “pose for photos with tourists but aggressively push for tips afterward, usually starting at $20-50 per person.”
Some Reddit users questioned why the woman wanted such a high amount, while others speculate she sneaked in to prey on gamblers.
Advice for those who encounter the scammers included “just walk away,” say “I live here,” or immediately call casino security.
