A California man is suing a Las Vegas casino and a railroad company after he accessed tracks near the hotel and was hit by a train. The accident resulted in two partial amputations of Ryan Pettway’s left foot and right leg.
The lawsuit, which names Union Pacific Railroad Corporation and Boyd Gaming Corporation as defendants, claims that the two parties were negligent. The plaintiff made his way to the tracks in December 2023 after passing through a hole in a fence with other individuals near Main Street Station in the downtown area. This transport network is used for freight services and does not offer any passenger rail services.
the lawsuit is seeking damages of over $75,000
Pettway’s resulting injuries will likely need regular medical treatment for the remainder of his life, including the likelihood of additional significant surgeries. That’s why the lawsuit is seeking damages of more than $75,000. The complaint claims that the two defendants should have realized that people could access the tracks through the fence, as there were clear signs of homeless encampments in the area.
It contends that the failure by the casino and railroad company to maintain and repair the fence contributed to the accident.
