A simple Starbucks Luxor Convention West receipt for an Americano and two cups of water has gone viral after a social media user’s post revealed the tap water cost $2 each.
X user Jeff Soto posted his receipt from the coffee franchise operating out of the MGM Resorts International-operated Luxor Hotel & Casino, stating: “you wonder why some people complain about what’s happening in Las Vegas. Fees galore.”
Local influencer giant Las Vegas Locally took to X to share Soto’s post, which has over 72k views, advocating a much lower price:
X users shared their opinions on the Starbucks Vegas charge, ranging from the profane and sublime to the sore and suspicious.
They rub it in your face too.”
In the latter category, X user “JJeffrey100” gave three scenarios for the charge, including a “shady employee” or a manager needing to “hit numbers.” Frank Regina expressed personal affront after noting the old price as zero on the receipt, stating on X: “They rub it in your face too.”
Alternatives to paying fortunes for tap water were also forthcoming, with “SoCalFlyer97” sharing the location of free public drinking fountains in Vegas:
Despite Las Vegas regularly boasting about the purity of Nevada-supplied water, “jacktenclubs” suggested that consumers should be paid “to drink hard water,” while another user jokingly replied: “Starbucks – worst place to drink straight black coffee.”
X user “Yiorgoman” added an extra layer of humor, saying that he once asked a manager why he was charged for tap water and got the response: “they charge us for it.”
