An elite tactical unit of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has arrested a 19-year-old shooter after a month-long manhunt for the killer of a man at a deadly Las Vegas street takeover in November.

A press release on Tuesday revealed detectives from the LVMPD’s Major Violator Section (MVS) arrested Joredyn Hubbard, 19, on December 26.

Vegas police, who had in early December asked for the public’s help in tracking down the killer, took to X to reveal they had the suspect in custody at the Clark County Detention Center with a charge of Open Murder:

The events leading to Hubbard’s arrest came on November 8 when Metro’s Communications bureau received a report of an illegal street takeover of Patrick Lane and Decatur Boulevard.

LVMPD officers arriving on the scene were approached by a woman who stated that “a man had been shot.” Emergency services took the gunshot victim to hospital, only for him to die days later.

Hubbard was apprehended on December 26 by an elite unit specializing in high-risk arrests, plainclothes surveillance, and tracking dangerous fugitives who are actively evading police.

increasingly dangerous trend

The fact the MVS got involved reveals a 2025 reclassification by the LVMPD of street takeovers as violent felonies. The arrest of Hubbard by the surveillance and apprehension unit comes as the increasingly dangerous trend sweeps the US.

In New York last month, a car was set on fire and a couple was violently attacked during a street takeover involving dozens of vehicles in a normally quiet Queens neighborhood.

Law enforcement agencies from Los Angeles to Vegas have issued warnings that street takeovers are illegal, while over in Texas, the Austin Police Department warned they were aware of a potential illegal public street takeover event on December 27. The APD warned anyone participating will be “subject to arrest, and their vehicle will be impounded.”
