April returns
Stephan M. Soldis is suing the parent company of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino for the actions of one of its security guards earlier this year.
Soldis filed his lawsuit against MGM Resorts International on December 18 after an April incident in which he was detained by Mandalay Bay security.
claims that he was criminally assaulted
Soldis’ suit, filed in Clark County District Court, claims that he was criminally assaulted, detained by security, and falsely accused of battering a security officer. The plaintiff is suing on five counts, namely false imprisonment, assault against plaintiff, battery, defamation, and “conversion/trespass to chattels.”
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Soldis is claiming “compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $15,000” besides interest, costs and legal fees.
The suit references Soldis attending a show at the Strip resort-casino when a security detail “ejected him from the show and asked him to leave the property.”
Local media outlets gave no clue as to what Soldis did to get thrown out. The suit reportedly states that Soldis “initially conditioned his departure upon a refund but was denied this and left.”
Push and shove?
According to the Review-Journal, the case smacks of a testosterone moment. Soldis, so the suit goes, was exiting the Mandalay show when a security detail blocked his route out.
Reports state that the guard blocked the plaintiff from leaving “in an attempt to document Soldis’ presence with a cell phone.” The suit says “the security officer’s presence became menacing” and that he “got up” in Soldis’ face.
Security used his arm to block Soldis from leaving, and the plaintiff pushed his arm away.
intervention “rose to the level of a criminal assault”
According to the suit, the security person, aided by multiple peers, took Soldis to the ground, “physically struck him, handcuffed him and escorted him to a private cell within Mandalay Bay.” Soldis claims the intervention “rose to the level of a criminal assault.” Soldis alleges that all the Mandalay security personnel involved “falsely” claimed he “battered” the antagonist instead of just pushing his arm out the way.
The plaintiff also alleges that while he was in confinement, his wallet was confiscated and searched.
According to the Review-Journal, after his alleged heavy-handed takedown, Soldis suffered not just multiple cuts and being locked up, but also “a general loss of faith in society, justice, and fellow citizens; among multiple others.”
