A Vegas Strip resort with a history of shootings and stabbings has provided the backdrop for yet another crime story after police arrested a man for brandishing what turned out to be multiple fake guns.

According to reports, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Lieutenant Andrew Kelvington stated that fellow officers arrested the instigator on Wednesday near Circus Circus Hotel and Casino.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal cited a text message from Kelvington revealing the LVMPD received reports from around 4:30pm of a man walking near the Strip casino-hotel, with “what appeared to be a handgun and rifle.”

reportedly pointing the weapons and later concealed them in a backpack.”

The Metro lieutenant said the suspect “was reportedly pointing the weapons and later concealed them in a backpack.”

According to the LVMPD, the weapons turned out to be “replica airsoft pistols.” Officers took action with “less-lethal” force, such as batons, tasers, or rubber bullets, which “proved effective” in taking the suspect into custody.

By 6:00pm, Kelvington said, police had reopened Las Vegas Boulevard to traffic around the area the suspect was discovered, the 2800 block dominated by Circus Circus. This was also the location of a false shooter alarm back in March that caused hysteria at the Strip resort and led to an evacuation of the property.
