Last week, poker players attending the RunGood Poker Series Grand Prix at the MGM National Harbor casino in Maryland were not best pleased. Those who had turned up to play Event 9, which showed a $40k guarantee on the website, were told that there was no guarantee after all.

advertised for over a month” on the website

Mac Chatham, a poker pro with more than $300,000 in live earnings, was the first to highlight the issue with the $2,200 Purple Chip Bounty event. He said the casino “refuses to honor the $40k GTD,” which had been “advertised for over a month” on the website.

Now, an exec has responded. Sean McCormack, Executive Director of Poker Strategy & Development for MGM Resorts International, posted on X. He said there was  a “mix-up” on the website and on a flyer that was “briefly circulated:”

Many social media users are not convinced by McCormack’s response. George K said that the RunGood series “had way too many issues, and was completely disorganized.”

Meanwhile, well-known poker pro Todd Witteles asked why organizers didn’t just cover the guarantee anyway at a cost of less than $16k. He said this would make sense “since the mistake was on MGM’s end.”
