Betfred is the latest sports betting operator to exit the US market. It joins the likes of Betway, 888, and Tipico as companies that have decided the juice isn’t worth the squeeze in a market that’s dominated by a handful of big hitters, most notably FanDuel and DraftKings.

wind down on Thursday after initially going live in December 2020

Betfred’s last remaining live platform is in Pennsylvania, which will wind down on Thursday after initially going live in December 2020 through a partnership with the Wind Creek Bethlehem casino.

The UK-based operator at one point had sportsbooks across ten states, including Nevada, Arizona, and Maryland. It gradually shuttered both retail and online operations as they failed to build up significant market share to make it viable to continue.

The losses had racked up. And despite attempts by Betfred management to continue, even if it was in just a single state, this ultimately wasn’t possible.
