The case remains open
It’s been six months since news emerged that federal investigators were looking into Miami Heat player Terry Rozier for potentially manipulating games for betting purposes. NBA insider Chris Haynes reported on Tuesday that the probe into the 31-year-old is ongoing:
The Wall Street Journal broke the original story in January and revealed that the probe was looking into Rozier’s relationship with an illegal sports betting scheme with links to Jontay Porter, who received a lifetime ban from the NBA in April 2024 for exiting games early to ensure he didn’t hit prop bet targets.
Suspicions abound
The league has conducted its own investigation into a game in March 2023 after a sportsbook operator flagged suspicious betting activity.

Rozier was playing for the Charlotte Hornets at the time and he exited the game in question against the New Orleans Pelicans after ten minutes due to foot soreness. Federal investigators revealed that the illegal betting ring had bet heavily against Rozier in player prop betting markets with insider information.
While the NBA concluded that Rozier didn’t violate league rules for that particular game, some posters on social media aren’t so sure about the Ohio native.
People have poked fun at Rozier’s performances for the Heat against the Cleveland Cavaliers in a game in March in which he made major mistakes:
Another NBA scandal
Terry Rozier hasn’t publicly commented on the matter as of yet. With over $100m in NBA career earnings, many people speculated why he would jeopardize his career if the allegations turned out to be true.
He’s not the only NBA star to be caught up in a federal probe this year. Detroit Pistons shooting guard Malik Beasley is under investigation by the US Attorney for his alleged involvement with suspicious betting on games during the 2023-2024 season when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks.
