NBA star Malik Beasley is now facing a $2.25m lawsuit in addition to a potential lifetime ban from the sport. Reports came out earlier this week that the 28-year-old was under federal investigation for potentially engaging in match-fixing for betting purposes.
Hazan Sports Management Group claimed that Beasley has financial issues
It has now emerged that the player’s former agency filed a lawsuit in April claiming that he never paid back a $650,000 advance and is now seeking $2.25m in damages. Hazan Sports Management Group alleges that Beasley has financial issues despite earning almost $60m across his nine seasons in the league.
A sportsbook operator reported suspicious wagering activity on some of the player’s prop betting markets when he was playing for the Milwaukee Bucks. He was traded to the Detroit Pistons ahead of last season, and his impressive performances meant that he was about to sign a $42m three-year contract that has now been halted.
Former Toronto Raptors power forward Jontay Porter received a lifetime ban from the NBA in 2024 for exiting games early to ensure he hit the under portion of certain prop bets. The same fate likely awaits Beasley if he’s found guilty.
The Atlanta native’s attorney Steve Haney emphasized that his client has not been charged with any crime and that an ongoing investigation doesn’t mean anything.
