While casinos and unions don’t always see eye to eye, they are uniting on an important issue in Las Vegas. The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 represents the interests of about 60,000 workers in the city and is working alongside the Nevada Resorts Association to re-establish a court process to ban unruly individuals from the Strip.
The two parties sent a joint letter to try to amend Governor Joe Lombardo’s public safety bill. The Resort Corridor Court was dismantled in 2024 due to overwhelming case numbers after only being created the previous year.

The time period to establish such a change this year is short, with Nevada’s 2025 legislative session ending in the early hours of Tuesday morning. However, there is the possibility of a special session commencing in the coming days.
Casinos and the union want a return to the court system that would let judges ban people from the Strip for as many as 12 months if they get a misdemeanor conviction for a crime committed in a tourism area. The letter explains that employees are subject to threats on a daily basis and that the issue could get worse if nothing is done.
The letter mentioned specific cases in which people who were caught trespassing on several occasions on the Strip assaulted hotel staff and security. In one case, a man trespassed on more than 700 occasions.
