Time stacks up

He did the crimes, but did Chiefs superfan and bank robber Xaviar Michael Babudar expect so much time?

14.5 years in an Oklahoma penitentiary.

Already serving 17.5 years in a Colorado supermax security prison instead of his preferred Illinois lockup, Babudar, 30, must now serve 14.5 years in an Oklahoma penitentiary.

Tulsa County District Judge Michelle Keely on Monday sentenced Babudar to the additional prison time, convicting him of one count apiece of robbery with a firearm, assault while masked or disguised, and removing an electronic monitoring device.

A September judgement by a US District Court in Kansas City sent the felon nicknamed ChiefsAholic to his long stay in a supermax for a bank robbery spree across seven states in 2022 and 2023.

Oklahoma out for blood

Babudar would attend NFL games as a wolf dressed in Chiefs clothing. On Monday, however, the tables turned, and the wolves dressed in Oklahoma federal fashion.

The disgraced Chief’s fan was facing the enmity of the feds over his violent $139,500 armed robbery of Tulsa Teachers Federal Credit Union in Oklahoma in December 2022.

Babudar laundered much of his heist proceeds through area casinos and online gambling, evidenced after his arrest days after the Tulsa heist. Police found him with a Barstool Sportsbook Betslip for $20,000 and a FanDuel Betslip for $4,000.

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler in particular seems to have taken a strong dislike to the dress-up desperado.

It was offensive to me”

“It was offensive to me that a serial robber could victimize as many hardworking Americans as this guy did all across the country and only receive 17½ years from the federal government,” said Kunzweiler on Monday.

The Kansas City Star cited the DA adding: “the violence that Babudar exhibited to the employees of the Tulsa Teacher Credit Union was abhorrent.”

Not life, but close

While the extra years means Babudar will serve 32 years behind bars, he can count himself somewhat fortunate. Kunzweiler and the feds sought life imprisonment for Babubar, and sounded bitter at not getting their wish.

He caught another break today”

The deflated DA added: “My preference was for him to serve the rest of his life in prison. He caught another break today, but at least he’s going to be serving some additional time.”

If Babubar manages to see out his stay at the ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies,’ he’ll be switched to an Oklahoma pen a few years shy of his 50th birthday.

If Babubar makes it all the way, he’ll walk out in time to catch the Chiefs’ 2057 season.
