California’s gaming tribes aren’t happy with the Sports Betting Alliance (SBA) bringing a journalist to a recent meeting that was supposed to be a private discussion, leading to what they call the resulting “false” reports.
The California Nations Indian Gaming Association and the Tribal Alliance of Sovereign Indian Nations issued a joint statement to emphasize that they were “offended” by this “breach of trust” from the representative body whose members include private operators like DraftKings and FanDuel.
reports emerged that tribal leaders were willing to work with private sportsbook operators
Following the meeting earlier this week at the Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention in San Diego, reports emerged that tribal leaders were willing to work with private sportsbook operators in a proposal that would see a tribal-led entity contacting private operators to offer betting.
Their leaders say this is “simply false” and this is why they should be leading discussions legalizing sports betting in California rather than “operator-funded groups.”
This incident could set back relations between the two sides, which have improved in recent years following a drawn-out ballot battle in 2022 in which voters rejected sports betting-related measures from both groups following extremely expensive campaigns.
