At the same time the US Supreme Court overturned PASPA, Brazil legalized sports betting apps. While the majority of US states have since gone sports betting app crazy, so has Brazil, with the latest research revealing 25% of Brazilians with a smartphone have wagered money via sports betting apps.

the state has missed the deadline to regulate the industry

Brazil legalized sports betting apps in 2018 as part of the national lottery, but the state has missed the deadline to regulate the industry, making the South American country a haven for unregulated apps.

The staggering count of one in four Brazilians to have already bet on sports via apps emerged from a collaborative questionnaire conducted in April by Mobile Time and Opinion Box, surveying 2,069 Brazilians with access to a smartphone and the Internet.

Young males from low income families, according to the survey, are those who are most attracted to spending money on the apps.

Such has been the betting boom that sports betting firms sponsor most of the top teams in Brazil’s elite soccer division, the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, their branding flooding the stadiums, traditional and digital media channels.

Pixbet sponsors both Santos and Vasco da Gama, Sportsbet has a deal with Sao Paolo, Betano with Fluminense and Atlético, while Parimatch recently inked the third-largest master shirt sponsorship in Brazil in its deal with Botafogo.
