March’s lucky rub on slots across the US looked like it had come to an end with a $1m jackpot in California on Sunday, but on the eve of April in the same state, another big jackpot landed.
Just a few hours before midnight on March 31 at Thunder Valley Casino Resort close to Sacramento, an unnamed player won $679,496.
Thunder Valley took to X with news of the win, courtesy of a $25 bet its “lucky guest” won on a Dragon Link: Genghis Khan slot machine:
Local media reported the winner’s family and friends first thought the $679k win on the Aristocrat Gaming-manufactured slot was an April 1 joke. Thunder Valley general manager Dawn Clayton said that there was “no better way to close out the month than with a win like this.”
Tuesday’s jackpot is the California casino’s tenth six-figure win of 2026, and comes less than a week after a $100k jackpot struck for a player on another Aristocrat slot, Buffalo Link.
The jackpot to end a month of big bonanzas raining down across the US from Washington to Connecticut, however, came on Sunday at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California, when a Burbank man landed a progressive jackpot of $1,339,477.
While March was notable for big jackpots, an even more spectacular month could be in store after a player in Nevada gambling on real money slots on April Fool’s Day hit the Megabucks jackpot to land a staggering $10,486,432.04.
