The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) has unanimously agreed to approve MGM International’s licensing request for a trailblazing gaming salon at Park MGM.

T-Mobile Arena’s growth in popularity

The innovative salon will allow players to record video and audio of their play. MGM said that the Strip casino applied for a gaming salon license because of the T-Mobile Arena’s growth in popularity and frequency of events.

The increased foot traffic has resulted in “a natural flow of individuals” departing the venue that could be attracted to gamble at Park MGM afterwards, the firm believes.

MGM’s Regulatory Division Vice President Chandler Pohl, however, may have been downplaying what he called a “potential application” for streamers.

Streamer’s dream

Pohl stated that the salon came about after MGM Interactive’s arm saw “some interest in the gaming community for the recording of people’s play for their enjoyment.”

The MGM exec added that “influencers who want to publicize their play can make a recording for broadcast or streaming, similar to popular poker events such as the World Series of Poker.”

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Pohl said the salon would be “the first one of its kind” in an open-to-the-public setting.

Pohl explained that people can play, watch and/or record play, and share it “with the people who have been playing in that public setting, should they want a copy.”

He added: “It’s much like when you ride the roller coaster at New York-New York, afterwards you can buy a photo of yourself on the roller coaster.”

Game-changer

The gaming salon is a departure from the typical Vegas definition of luxury rooms for VIPs and celebrities, who typically want to gamble out of the social media spotlight.

Visitors to the Park MGM studio during any filming, Pohl said, will be required by MGM to sign consent forms.

The Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) can give the MGM studio the green light on March 26 when it meets to consider the NGCB’s recommendation.
