Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs, 52, might be looking for a new public relations agent after starring in an ill-advised women’s day commercial promoting an online betting platform.

The UK media ripped into Giggs, who has struggled to rebuild credibility in the soccer world since he went on trial for domestic abuse in 2020 over allegations of violence and more towards his ex-girlfriend and sister.

On International Women’s Day, Giggs, however, took to Instagram to introduce himself in a video ad as brand ambassador of Vietnam-facing betting platform F168:

“Happy Women’s Day! I’m Ryan Giggs” the ex-winger began, before stating: “Today we celebrate the strength, beauty and achievements of women everywhere,’ Giggs, 52, says while appearing in the video.

One UK newspaper called the Instagram promotion “an obscene new low”

Giggs tells the “amazing women in our community” to “keep shining and inspiring us all” and to “celebrate this special day with F168,” while having “some fun and games” on the gambling platform. One UK newspaper called the Instagram promotion “an obscene new low” for Giggs.

According to court documents, Giggs admitted under oath that he had sent his ex-girlfriend abusive texts, had never been monogamous in any of his prior relationships, and that he’d slept with his brother’s wife.

While prosecutors eventually pulled the case against Giggs in 2023 after his ex declined to testify, and despite his strong denials of the charges, he remains frozen out of his place at the table of legends. In January, it was reported that the induction of one of Manchester United’s greatest ever left wingers into the English Premier League’s Hall of Fame had been shelved.
