According to local media outlets, the Chinese national fell to their death at the casino-hotel shortly after gambling in the venue. At the moment, there is no other information on the fatal incident.
A statement released by the embassy highlighted that several Chinese nationals have died in gambling-related incidents in Singapore over recent years. Gambling is banned in mainland China, outside of Macau, and so often locals will travel to Singapore to indulge in the activity. However, under China law, gambling is prohibited for mainland citizens, both domestically and abroad.
“Overseas gambling violates national laws, and embassies cannot provide consular protection for illegal activities,” the statement said.
Singapore permits gambling in its two licensed venues, namely Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa. Anyone of legal age, including Chinese nationals, is permitted to gamble at these venues under Singapore law.
