More docs released
Last year, Las Vegas magician David Copperfield suddenly found himself on the wrong side of public opinion after his name cropped up in the 40 documents relating to the Jeffrey Epstein sexual abuse case. Otherwise known as the Epstein Files, the documents detail the horrific crimes of the disgraced financier, including those of his associates.
the federal agency believed the magician had a “very close relationship” with Epstein
Now, his name has appeared again as more documents were released last week. They include details about the FBI’s investigation of Copperfield, making clear that the federal agency believed the magician had a “very close relationship” with Epstein, who died from a supposed suicide in his prison cell in New York City in 2019.
In light of the clear link between Copperfield and Epstein, some have called on MGM Resorts International to ditch the magician, given that he still has a regular show in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand. Some social media users have even suggested the Nevada Gaming Control Board should get involved to cancel the shows.
Copperfield’s association
Epstein was accused of having both abused minors and facilitated the abuse of minors by his associates. He did so with his partner Ghislaine Maxwell, who currently sits behind bars. She was his former fixer and is now a convicted child trafficker sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022.
There were several instances when Copperfield’s name came up within the Epstein releases in January last year. He was named as someone Epstein was friends with, and a deposed victim of Epstein’s sexual crimes claimed Copperfield may have known about it.
Later last year, a report from The Guardian threw even more dirt at the 69-year-old entertainer. In it, a total of 16 women claimed that Copperfield committed sexual misconduct or was inappropriate with them In some way. The claims span four decades, from the late 1980s to 2014.
a compilation of females that he targeted for sexual conquest.”
In the latest string of revelations, uncovered last week, Seattle FBI agents expressed concerns to Miami colleagues about Copperfield’s association to Epstein. The agents mention two witnesses in the Epstein case, including one who said the financier “groomed” her. Both women were supposedly named in Copperfield’s “business list,” which the agents claim “appears to be a compilation of females that he targeted for sexual conquest.”
Another memo, written after the death of Epstein, claims the FBI investigation “showed Copperfield trained his employees to identify young females (teens to early twenties) in the audience of his shows.” They were then separated from people they were with and brought backstage to meet the magician.
The backlash
Local Las Vegas news source and influencer page Vital Vegas was the first to take aim at Copperfield after the most recent news surfaced. The page tagged MGM and the Nevada Gaming Control Board in an X post, urging them to cancel the show of the “asshat:”
Others echoed those sentiments. @CasablancRic highlighted the fact that members of the magicians audience were potential victims, given the reports that surfaced last year.
