A video is doing the rounds on social media of a cheater caught in the act in China. The casino patron was using high-tech contact lenses to cheat on Mahjong, a very popular tile-based game that uses both skill and luck.

Some have claimed the video might be AI generated. While it is hard to discern if this is the case, high-tech infrared contact lenses have been used to cheat casinos before, including in Asian countries such as Nepal. Tiles are marked with invisible ink that can be seen only through specialized lenses.

Infrared cameras can be used to cheat on poker too. In September last year, police in Birmingham, England had to warn overseas students not to play in illegal gambling dens, explaining that players could cheat by using marked cards and infrared cameras.
Others use more traditional methods to cheat casinos. A TikToker went viral in May of last year after a casino refused to pay him his winnings from Blackjack. The TikToker, who goes by the name Brutal Chameleon, is a self confessed card counter – something that isn’t exactly illegal in the US but will get you banned from a casino.
