The NBA is tightening up its injury reporting rules to try to prevent insider information from being used as an edge for placing sports bets. Teams must submit their confirmed injury reports between 11am and 1pm local time on the day of every game, starting Monday.
The previous format required teams to file their last report by 5pm the night before the game. The NBA believes this tweak will inform people about late injuries during morning shootarounds and limit the time in which inside information can begin spreading.

The league will also ensure that the injury reports appear on the website within 15 minutes of submission. Teams will face higher fines if they fail to comply with these rules.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver remarked last week that the league was considering a variety of measures to counteract the sports betting problem. These include working more closely with regulators to safeguard betting markets that are seen as being easier to manipulate, such as unders and other prop bets. That could mean limiting bet sizes and the types of players that can be the subjects of prop bets.
Silver also said there is work being done on determining if AI can play a significant role in monitoring suspicious betting activity.
