Three casino projects in downstate New York finally have licenses, almost three years after regulators opened the application process. The New York State Gaming Commission confirmed on Monday that each of the final bidders was successful with their proposals.
The Hard Rock Metropolitan Park, Bally’s Bronx, and Resorts World New York City can all now proceed with their development plans.
Governor Kathy Hochul welcomed the news, remarking that the projects will create tens of thousands of jobs and generate significant funding for public infrastructure improvements. She also emphasized that the successful applicants made considerable promises to their communities, and State Gaming Commission Chair Brian O’Dwyer has said that the regulatory body will ensure “a close eye will be watching over them at all times.”
Resorts World New York City will be the first casino to roll out expanded gambling options
Resorts World New York City will be the first casino to roll out expanded gambling options to its patrons. That’s because it’s an existing slot parlor that will introduce table games like blackjack and roulette in the spring of next year as it works to renovate and expand the property. The other two casinos don’t plan to be open until 2030.
Some protestors reacted to Monday’s decision by shouting out during the meeting: “You picked a billionaire over New Yorkers! Shame on you!” before exiting.
