NBA star Terry Rozier has pleaded not guilty in his match-fixing case. The Miami Heat point guard entered his plea on Monday in a Brooklyn federal court for the money laundering and wire fraud conspiracy charges.
He’s out of custody on a $3m bond, which he secured from his Florida residence and another property. The Ohio native can’t engage in any form of gambling or contact defendants in the case as part of his bail conditions. The 31-year-old surrendered his passport and can only travel between New York, Florida, and Ohio with specific permission.
Rozier didn’t say anything during his court appearance, except to answer some yes/no questions from the judge. His lawyer Jim Trust asked the judge to have a “speedy” timeline for the case, as Rozier has several active cases, including an NBA arbitration.
US District Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall didn’t pay much heed to this request, saying the other case isn’t relevant. The next hearing will be on March 3, giving the defense team time to go through the large amount of evidence the prosecutors submitted.
Rozier exited a game against the New Orleans Pelicans injured after less than ten minutes
Rozier allegedly manipulated his in-game performance while playing for the Charlotte Hornets in 2023 so his friend could win prop bets. They won tens of thousands of dollars after Rozier exited a game against the New Orleans Pelicans injured after less than ten minutes of action. He’s on unpaid leave from the Miami Heat until the legal action concludes.
