Mohamed Salah is the name on everyone’s lip in the world of English Premier League punditry recently. Not because Salah is performing well, but because the Liverpool forward is sitting on the bench as his team struggle with a string of dismal results.

Salah has been demoted to the bench for the past three games

2024/25 EPL champions Liverpool are sitting tenth in the table after winning just two of their last 11 league games. They’ve lost eight of those games. Salah has been demoted to the bench for the past three games after struggling to keep up, and has now been left out of the squad completely for the soccer team’s upcoming game with Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

All of this came to a head in a dramatic post-match interview with Salah, in which he said he felt he had been “thrown under the bus” by manager Arne Slot. Speaking after the team’s 3-3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday, he said: “I don’t know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club.”

Those comments provoked anger from ex-Liverpool player and now pundit Jamie Carragher. The former defender called Salah a “disgrace” for the public outburst, claiming that he had caused “carnage” at the club. “Now there’s a bit of a civil war at Liverpool, and it didn’t need to be like this,” Carragher explained.

Regardless of the drama, sportsbooks still think Salah will most likely remain at Liverpool in the January transfer window. Bet365 and BetMGM both have Liverpool at -200 for Salah’s club after the window closes. Next up is any Saudi Arabian team at +125, and then any MLS team at +1100. As for specific clubs, Bayern Munich, Roma, and Napoli are all +1600.

Time will tell what Salah and Slot decide, but for now it seems the Egyptian star is stuck at Anfield.
