Prediction Markets Fooled After Viral ‘Insider’ Profiles Turn Out to Be Fake

Major prediction market sites were left red-faced after it was revealed that they had partnerships with fake sports insiders. Awful Announcing revealed on X that some accounts on the platform that appeared to be real reporters were actually fictional creations:

The issue has now been clarified, as X classified the accounts as being a “parody,” and the icon for the Kalshi partnership is now gone. Polymarket was also involved with some of these fake accounts.

One profile named Emma Vance claimed to be a “lead Polymarket reporter” and shows a combination of gambling tips and posts aimed at virality. The Polymarket posts began appearing in November as the account positioned itself as a source for breaking news stories backed up by prediction market charts. Polymarket even went so far as promoting her on its official social media accounts.

It’s unclear whether Kalshi and Polymarket were actually aware these weren’t legitimate profiles.
