Management at the casino grew suspicious and began investigating the matter internally before involving the Calgary Police Service. The incidents of alleged fraud took place between October 31 and November 19. Officers made the arrests on November 19 when the casino alerted law enforcement to the theft and fraud.

Rosielyn Konno, Catherine Manipon, Yalan Yin, Leonilo Calahi Juan, and Rui Qin Huang each face a single count of fraud over CA$5,000 (US$3,611). Manipon and Konno, the two employees, were also hit with criminal breach of trust charges. They will be in court on December 22.

The Calgary Police Service noted in a statement that it worked closely with industry partners and regulators to address these types of crimes. It said that anyone found trying to exploit the gaming sector’s standards will be “held accountable.”
