Members of the Culinary Workers Union Local 226, which represents thousands of casino and hotel workers in Las Vegas, have protested near Harry Reid International Airport. In a choreographed act of civil disobedience, the group blocked traffic at Tropicana Avenue and University Center Drive on Thursday.

The Harry Reid staff members were protesting stalled contract negotiations with their employer. Las Vegas Locally posted a video of the incident on X:

The workers want fair wages, protected healthcare, and pensions. Many claim they have not had a wage increase in three to four years, while their employer is also supposedly proposing a 40% cut to healthcare and pensions.

In total, 24 people ended up in custody after the protest. They caused serious disruption to traffic in the area.

In May, the Culinary Union secured the largest wage increase for Las Vegas casino workers in its 90-year history. Several casinos agreed to the increases, including The Cosmopolitan and Resorts World. Notably, the Union also signed a new five-year contract for 1,100 Harry Reid workers at the same time, but the workers didn’t green light the deal.
