Las Vegas has not been at its usual best over the past 12 months. Claims that Sin City is “dying” have littered the headlines, and many have blamed the poor performance of casinos and hotels for growing hospitality prices.
Now, another Las Vegas bill is shocking many on Reddit. A Cosmopolitan guest ordered breakfast to their room, which included buttermilk pancakes, French toast, and an American breakfast of bacon, hash browns, eggs, and coffee. The three items came to $89 at the MGM Resorts International-operated property.
it was the additional fees and tip that caused an image of the bill to gain traction
Although this is already fairly steep, it was the additional fees and tip that caused an image of the bill to gain traction online. They had to pay an auto-gratuity of $16.02, plus a service charge of $10, and then finally they tipped 22% tip at $19.58:
Many in the comments believe that the guest almost definitely didn’t realise the auto-gratuity was already added. This is an issue that many have experienced, with various X users claiming they have also not realised the tips are mandatory on occasion, often double-tipping.
@ClarenceBeeks had no sympathy, saying simply: “Auto-gratuities are shameful and anyone who adds any ‘tip’ on top of that is a fool.” Meanwhile, @SakeBombNinja said: “This is one of the reasons people don’t frequent Vegas as much. The casinos nickel & dime you for everything.”
In October, Caesers Entertainment CEO Tom Reeg admitted that his company “might have gotten in over the skis pricing wise” when it came to Vegas recently. He believes stories of overpricing, such as the $26 bottle of water at the Aria, will become a thing of the past as the gambling hub gradually recovers.
