The Southern Ohio Organized & Major Crimes Task Force seized $200,000 in cash and over 100 slot machines after a year-long investigation into three gaming venues, namely Lucky Dog 7 in South Point, Three Aces in Portsmouth, and Three Kings in New Boston.

According to the Country Herald, the probe successfully enabled task force agents to “identify and dismantle several locations tied to organized gambling.”

Major disruption

The scale of the seizures and widespread nature of the network suggests, according to reports, that the OOCIC has succeeded in causing a major disruption to a sophisticated, regional illegal criminal enterprise.

According to the Herald, the investigation was initially launched after Task Force agents were alerted by residents to suspicious activity, with the unit’s commander praising the cooperation and commitment of Ohio citizens.

“This case is a clear example of what can be accomplished when citizens speak up and law enforcement agencies work together,” said the Task Force Director, crediting the cooperation of local and state agencies for the operation’s success. Officials also reasserted their dedication to taking down illegal operators that pose a threat to Ohio communities.

Charges and cooperation

The Task Force, meanwhile, is now pursuing a primary charge of Engaging in a Pattern of Corrupt Activity against the individuals involved, with the case now under review by a Scioto County Grand Jury.

The Task Force commander also attributed the success of the enforcement action to the collaboration of multiple local and state agencies.

Agencies involved included Scioto and Lawrence County Sheriff’s Offices, Portsmouth and New Boston Police Departments, Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office, and the OOCIC. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction’s Special Response and STAR units, meanwhile, were also cited for providing special tactical assistance.
