Thailand will extradite a gambling kingpin to China within the next 90 days after a long-running legal battle. She Zhijiang is alleged to be the mastermind behind an extensive illegal network.

Thai police arrested the 43-year-old in August 2022, following the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice and international warrant requested by authorities in Beijing.

The Chinese national’s legal team appealed a May 2024 extradition order, arguing that it was unlawful. The Thai Constitutional Court ruled last month that the extradition is, in fact, lawful.

stand trial in China for allegedly running 239 online gambling sites

He will now stand trial in China for allegedly running 239 online gambling sites that handled more than US$385 billion worth of bets. Law enforcement also believes he set up and operated two land-based casinos in Myanmar, each part of a larger tourism and entertainment complex.

She Zhijiang maintains his innocence, claiming that the alleged offenses date back to 2011 and that this is a politically motivated case.
