The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has hit the former operator of Westgate Las Vegas’ SuperBook with a $20,000 fine for altering five wagers placed on a 2022 UFC fight.

computer glitch that switched winning bets with losing ones

According to New Jersey.com on Tuesday, the DGE sanctioned SBOpco LLC for a computer glitch that switched winning bets with losing ones for the fight between William Knight and Maxim Grishin on February 12, 2022.

The NGE’s filings reveal that SBO cited a system error that caused the odds for the match to display incorrectly, favoring Grishin at +145 instead of Knight.

Rather than honoring the bets made while the wrong odds were live, SBO swapped them, meaning SuperBook bettors who had correctly picked eventual winner Grishin lost their wagers.

The NGE later ordered SuperBook to pay the rightful winners, with its ex-operator SBO responsible for all state licensing and compliance regulations, not the sportsbook’s owner, Westgate.

The error preceded SBO’s announcement in July 2024 that it would shutter most of its online platforms across the US, including in New Jersey, to concentrate on its Nevada operations.
