A fumble on the goal line in the final minutes of North Carolina’s college football game against California cost one parlay bettor a $100,000 payout:
Trailing by three points with just under four minutes left on the clock, it appeared that wide receiver Nathan Leacock was about to score a touchdown and give his team a lead after a pass from quarterback Gio Lopez.
the ball tumbled into the endzone and Cal pounced on it for a touchback
Less than a step away from the goal line, Leacock had the ball slapped out of his hands by Cal’s Brent Austin. The ball tumbled into the endzone and Cal pounced on it for a touchback with less than four minutes remaining. They were able to drain most of the rest of the clock to pull out a 21-18 victory, leaving one bettor unhappy when his $1,000 six-leg parlay with odds of +9,895 that relied on North Carolina to win was ruined.
UNC Head Coach Bill Belichick looked dejected after the loss, though he usually looks like that after wins, as well. His team is now 2-4 on the season.
