Evolution has won its long-standing legal battle to unveil the mysterious opponent that has targeted the company since 2021 with a raft of allegations about its business practices. The New Jersey Supreme Court ruled on October 3 that Black Cube didn’t have grounds for its motion for a stay and would either have to reveal the name of its secret client or be held in contempt of court.
allegations that Evolution had offered games to US-sanctioned nations
The private intelligence firm released its original report in 2021, outlining allegations that Evolution offered games to US-sanctioned nations, such as Iran and Syria. More recently, it unveiled secret footage in August of Evolution executives talking about tactics they can use to offer live dealer casino games in blacklisted countries.
When NEXT.io asked if the Sweden-based company would reveal the name of its secret opponent, a spokesperson said it won’t “comment on the future of this elite process.” Revealing the identity of the client who commissioned the original report was a key part of the legal battle.
The actual defamation case that Evolution is pursuing will continue, as it disputes the 2021 report’s truthfulness. The company’s share price is now 50% of what it was when the allegations first came to light in November 2021, wiping out about $15.5bn in market capitalization.
