Poker professional Craig Bergeron is currently facing murder charges after allegedly shooting a man dead in Detroit in December, seemingly at random. The 36-year-old nearly got off the hook last week after law enforcement couldn’t locate the main witness in the case.

As reported by PokerNews, on September 11, Judge Shawn Jacque ordered that the case be dismissed and all charges dropped as a result. The following day, a police officer was able to get in touch with the witness, and Bergeron was recharged on September 15. He has remained in Wayne County jail without bond since his arrest in December 2024.

posted paranoid videos on social media

The Michigan poker player had posted paranoid videos on social media in the hours before the shooting of 37-year-old Tommy Ireland. Police claim that Bergeron fled in his SUV and assaulted someone else before being apprehended. First-degree murder carries the possibility of life in prison without parole in Michigan. Bergeron has not entered a plea yet, and there is no scheduled trial date.

The poker community was shocked when the news broke, with many of his peers describing him as being caring and generous before he disappeared from the scene a few years ago. His total career live tournament earnings exceed $1.3m; his most notable finish was fourth at the PokerStars European Poker Tour Deauville Main Event in 2010 for $312,853.
