The Boring Company has suspended operations at a Las Vegas construction site after a worker suffered a “crushing injury” on Wednesday evening.
Emergency responders were contacted by Boring Company employees, dispatching an 18-person rescue crew to the site. A crane was used to lift the worker to safety and to hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.
The Boring Company was responsible for constructing the Las Vegas Loop, but has faced several workplace safety concerns after investigations and reports into their practices in recent years.
The company as a whole has been very fortunate these past few months that there hasn’t been a fatality.”
Last year, investigations from Fortune reported an email sent from a site in Bastrop, Texas to Wayne Marideth, who was the safety manager at the time. “I feel that the company as a whole has been very fortunate these past few months that there hasn’t been a fatality,” said the email. “We have consistently flirted with death.”
In 2023, the company also dug too close to the foundations of the Las Vegas Monorail, causing a service suspension. A third-party engineering company was swiftly brought in to perform a structural assessment, and additional concrete was poured to enclose the exposed foundations before service resumed.
