Described as a modern lariat by one social media user and very Wild West by another, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s newest weapon against crime seems an instant hit.

Dubbed the Grappler, the LVMPD revealed its new gadget in action on Wednesday, taking down a man accused of suspected murder. Metro posted a video on X with its “pursuit intervention device” takedown of the suspect Vincent Farmer:

According to the cops, Farmer had “carjacked his ex-girlfriend by pushing her out of her vehicle” and was also wanted for attempted murder in Nye County.

The Grappler latched onto Farmer’s vehicle at speed in busy traffic and then brought the suspect to a stop in seconds. The LVMPD said the device allowed police to successfully and peacefully resolve the “dangerous situation.”

According to reports, the Grappler is a modified bull bar that shoots netting around a vehicle’s rear tire and axle.

Other comments on social media likened the LVMPD Grappler vehicle to the Batmobile and “the car wrangler.”
