The Court of First Instance of Curaçao has ruled that online gambling operator Parimatch has to return $19,630 it confiscated from a player who it claimed had multiple accounts. While the decision came back in March 2023, it was only published on Monday. A gambler advocacy group took over the matter and argued its case.
didn’t sufficiently prove that the player was guilty of any wrongdoing
The funds were confiscated back in June 2021; the court deemed the operator’s terms and conditions to be invalid as players couldn’t properly view them. Parimatch also didn’t sufficiently prove that the player was guilty of any wrongdoing.
Parimatch had given evidence that the customer used several different IP addresses from within Belarus. The Foundation for the Advocation of Victims of Online Gambling (SBGOK) successfully argued that the IP address shifted due to local internet service providers using dynamic IP addresses.
Despite outsourcing operations to a third party, Cyberluck, the former master license holder of Parimatch, was found jointly liable.
