Reports have emerged over the weekend that baseball fans won’t be seeing either of the Cleveland Guardians pair Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz in action this season.

MLB issued a news release on Sunday stating that because of an ongoing gambling probe, the pair are to remain on nondisciplinary paid leave indefinitely. The MLB and the players’ association agreed to extend Ortiz and Clase’s leave “until further notice.”

We will not comment further”

“We will not comment further until the investigation has been completed,” the league concluded.

The probe began after sports betting integrity watchdog, IC360, sent alerts to sportsbooks in June over unusual betting activity around two specific pitches Ortiz threw that month.

After the incidents came to the MLB’s attention, the league placed the pitcher on leave until July 3. On July 28, under the same ongoing investigation by the MLB and the Ohio Casino Control Commission, the league sent Clase on leave.

It still remains unclear, however, what Clase is being specifically investigated for.
