Every so often, David defeats Goliath, which is what happened on Friday in Missouri with the announcement that Circa Sports beat out FanDuel for one of two untethered sports betting licenses.
DraftKings took home the other approval, leaving the Flutter Entertainment brand to try to strike a deal with a land-based casino or one of the state’s six professional sports teams to get market access. The operator already has broadcast deals with the Kansas City Royals and the St. Louis Cardinals.
the “two top qualified applicants” after a unanimous vote
The Missouri Gaming Commission (MGC) deemed DraftKings and Circa Sports to be the “two top qualified applicants” after a unanimous vote, much to the surprise of people on social media. Each company had pitched the board for 30-minute slots earlier this week to plead their case.
DraftKings and FanDuel dominate the US legal sports betting market, each live in almost 30 states, while Circa Sports is only currently operational in five states.
The platforms will be able to launch on December 1, once they get the all-clear from regulators.
