News broke over the weekend that NBA veteran Marcus Morris was arrested in Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on suspicion of writing checks while having insufficient funds.

While his twin brother and fellow basketball player Markieff posted on X saying that the matter was overblown and his agent revealed that the issue was over an unpaid casino marker, TMZ has obtained court documents that paint a different picture.

Morris allegedly obtained $115,000 in May 2024 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas using bad checks and never repaid the funds after they bounced. The following month, he obtained $150,000 in a similar manner from the Wynn Las Vegas.

he remains in custody pending his extradition to Nevada

Two arrest warrants were out for his arrest, with law enforcement eventually detaining him in Florida on Sunday, and he remains in custody pending his extradition to Nevada.

Morris’s legal team requested his release, stating that he’s currently working on paying back his debts and that freeing him would speed up this process. The judge rejected his plea on Tuesday, saying that she would only agree if the warrants were withdrawn.

The 35-year-old has made almost $107m in salary during his 13 seasons in the NBA and is currently a free agent.
