DraftKings has settled with the New Jersey wife of an estranged husband who allegedly blew almost $1m of the family’s savings to gamble with the US sportsbook.
“nurturing” his costly addiction
The settlement comes after Lisa D’Alessandro filed a suit in December claiming her ex-husband stole her money to gamble and accusing the Boston-based sportsbook of “nurturing” his costly addiction.
The ex, whose real name has not been disclosed, gambled almost $15m via DraftKings between 2020 and January 2024.
The former husband allegedly secretly emptied credit cards and the Christmas, birthday, and baptism-funded savings accounts of his two children.
After he confessed to his wife he’d lost the money gambling, D’Allesandro filed for divorce the following day.
D’Alessandro and her two kids will now gain a degree of closure after Essex County Superior Court Judge Stephen Petrillo dismissed the case with prejudice. Petrillo indicated that the case was closed “because of a mutual settlement agreement” between DraftKings and the plaintiff.
While reports haven’t revealed the settlement figure, D’Allesandro had asked she get back the entire $942,232.32 her ex allegedly stole from her and the children to gamble.
