MGM China Holdings Settles $178,000 Lawsuit With Hong Actor Jacky Heung

  • Heung borrowed HK$2m ($255,000) from MGM Grand Paradise for gambling

Despite recent reports that MGM China Holdings Limited is suing Hong Kong actor Jacky Heung for an alleged unpaid gambling debt, the gaming company has said the legal tiff is over and everything has been resolved. According to court documents, MGM China sued Heung for at least HK$1.4m (US$178,404) after he borrowed HK$2m ($255,000) from MGM Grand Paradise with which to gamble, but did not fully repay the loan.

“The matter involving Mr. Jacky Heung Cho arose from a credit guarantee he provided for a third party. Due to overdue payments not being made, MGM China subsequently initiated standard legal procedures to address the related matters,” MGM China said in a statement.

Heung, who turns 41 on Sunday, is the son of entertainment mogul Charles Heung. Charles is the founder and Chairman of China Star Entertainment Group, a company primarily involved in Chinese-language film and television production and distribution, though it also deals in real estate and gaming.

Charles’ father, Heung Chin, founded the Sun Yee On Triad, and Charles himself has been accused of having a leadership position in the organization. He has admitted to his family’s background in organized crime, but denies any personal involvement or knowledge of any goings-on.
