BetMGM Casino is even developing and launching a Jeter-themed slot game exclusive to the platform. No other baseball star, retired or still active, has their own themed game online.
Talking to Variety about the new partnership, the five-time World Series winner said that he’s been aware of the BetMGM brand for a long time and he acknowledged how much excitement fans now get from legal sports betting.
He believes that daily fantasy sports was a big driver for this trend and now betting is no longer “something you did on the sly.”
The 51-year-old said he doesn’t really gamble much these days, only occasionally playing blackjack with very low stakes. He has a reputation from his playing days of being a bad sport when it came to paying wagers with his fellow teammates.
While appearing on an episode of the ‘Pardon My Take’ podcast, Jeter’s former teammate Phil Hughes described how they’d occasionally bet on the results of college football games. The stakes were often $100, with Jeter regularly paying his losses in pennies.
